As a parent, you want to witness many of your child’s milestones such as walking and talking. There are many other milestones which your child will reach with the best early child care and brain development. As the childcare experts, Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of San Antonio has highlighted below some of the milestones.
Speech is a major step for your child, but the speech which your child exhibits at the start may not be very much or even helpful. Your child will experience a babbling stage which is highly important and must not be stopped or controlled. However, there are many ways to enhance your child’s language development and some of these include reading and narrating your every action when you are with him or her. Music can also assist in this development. Your child mimics what he or she encounters from the world, thus it is essential to foster mental growth and build language development from an early age.
Arguably one of the biggest milestones in your child’s life is that of walking because it shows you that your child care techniques and brain development are on par with optimal results. Walking is the result of your child’s development of gross motor skills. Gross motor skills control the larger muscle movements which your child uses when ready to stand unassisted. Walking can be brought about faster by exercising your child’s neck and back muscles, ensuring good balance and support.
These are just two of many important child care milestones. To find out more or to enroll your child in our AdvancED™ accredited program, contact us. Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of San Antonio looks forward to helping you achieve your goals for your child.Show Less

Preschool is one of the most important stages in your child’s life. During this period, your child will learn so many fundamental things that will be needed to become a success in the future. But for any parent, choosing a preschool can be tough. Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of San Antonio, Texas, will help you consider important factors when choosing a preschool. Below are a few questions you might want to ask when deciding where to enroll your child:
One of the first aspects that you should be looking for in a preschool is whether the teaching that is going to be provided includes the fundamentals your child will need. Your child should be taught all the necessary subjects and be taught in an individualized manner, because every child learns differently.
Security and safety
Essential to your child’s learning and peak brain development is a safe, secure, and comfortable learning environment. Your child will thrive and learn in this type of setting. Asking about or checking into a preschool’s safety and security protocol ensures your peace of mind, and an optimal setting in which your child can learn.

All parents everywhere face a variety of issues daily as they care for a child. One of the most common stressors is coping with a child’s illness. As a parent, maintaining your child’s health at all times is of paramount importance. Fortunately, Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of San Antonio, Texas is here to provide you with some insight on how to cope with illness during child care and preschool:
Talk to others
Many new parents become very apprehensive about the possibility of a child becoming ill. A sick child causes a parent much anxiety since they are not always sure what it entails, or how they will cope with it. Speaking with other parents can help to put your mind at ease and let you know that they, also, have the same natural worries and concerns that you do.
As a parent life certainly becomes a juggling act with debts to pay, lunches to make, and including the many factors that are a part of raising a child. Learning to share responsibilities during child care tends to lessen any extra burden for one parent or the other. This is one of the amazing benefits of being one of two parents, as you don’t have to personally deal with every issue that arises.
Finally, don’t be resistant to asking for help. The stresses and concerns you are experiencing are completely natural. Assistance that is literally just a phone call away can help tremendously with child care.
Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning academy of San Antonio understands that learning and development doesn’t stop after preschool, which is why we equip our students with the necessary skills to continue to learn at home as well. Contact us today to find out more about our quality child care services as well as the amazing facilities that your child can expect to enjoy when you enroll him or her.Show Less
One of the most important parts of infant care is feeding your baby. You can breastfeed or bottle feed your infant. The child care experts at Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of San Antonio review the differences in these feeding practices, which can be helpful for you and your newborn.
Breastfeeding is generally the recommended way of feeding an infant to ensure that the proper nutrients are delivered. Breast milk is nature’s uniquely developed and ideal food source for your child, because in addition to providing the right nutrition for your infant breast milk also bolsters your child’s immune system and increases brain development. Breast milk is developed specifically for your child so it provides all the nutrition your baby needs. Another nice aspect of breastfeeding is that it creates a strong bonding experience for you and your baby.
Parents can bottle feed an infant with either breast milk or commercial formulas. Commercial formulas are quite nourishing and support an infant’s healthy development, but do not have all of the specific nutrients of breast milk. This is because a commercial formula does not contain the specific antibodies that breast milk does. However, for those parents for whom breastfeeding is not an option, commercial formulas work very well. Parents can also have good bonding experiences when bottle feeding.
Finger feeding is used early to teach an infant how to breast or bottle feed. This technique involves applying small amounts of milk to your finger and then stimulate your baby’s lips with the milk, thereby, teaching your infant how to feed.

To maximize a child’s brain development, it is important that cognitive stimulation starts during infancy. The first brain cells develop within two days after conception and after two weeks, the brain cells of a developing infant are expanding at a rate of 500,000 per minute. A newborn’s brain will have 100 billion neurons, but only 17% are active. By the age of six, 80 billion brain cells will be activated.
This early development is essential to future learning potential and this is why choosing the best child care facility is important. At Kids 'R' Kids Learning Academy of San Antonio at Bitters Road / Deerfield Area, we know that repetition is the developmental key for neurological pathways. This especially helps early learning for a child to recognize colors, letters, numbers, and shapes. Our Brain Waves™ Curriculum provides your child with the best possible opportunity to develop these pathways and establish cognitive skills.
We help your child through:
- Brain development using a variety of learning stations to help boost your child’s cognitive abilities and increase self-confidence.

These years, in regards to your child’s brain development, are crucial. Providing the best available preschool is vital to supporting a child’s early development and opportunity for learning. During the first two years alone, your child’s brain will develop at a rapid pace. Only 17% of the 100 billion neurons will be activated by the time your child is born, which makes this development so critical.
At the Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of San Antonio, we make utilize our exclusive Brain Waves™ Curriculum. This program will help the stimulation of physical, cognitive, social-emotional and language development. The introduction of broadband internet connections has allowed unprecedented access, both educational and recreational, to an amazing amount of information for everyone, even your preschool child. There are a number of websites that cater to children of this age. Here are some online games for your preschooler to play at home which can help him or her learn:
Online jigsaw games and puzzles are a great way for preschool children to utilize both the left and right sides of the brain. Studies have shown that people who consistently do jigsaw puzzles throughout their lives are far less likely to suffer from diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer’s. There are a number of educational websites readily available that offer jigsaw games for children of all ages.
Children absolutely love playing racing games. These are fun, exciting and mentally stimulating. There are many racing games for your preschool child to play, many of them free. While many parents think that this type of game is not very beneficial to their child’s development, these games aid your child in developing hand-eye coordination, as well as reaction times.
Spot the odd image out
These games are a good way for your preschool child to learn about sequencing and distinguishing images. These games use images that appear identical, but, on closer look, one of the images is different. Your child has to learn how to find the differences. These games may have a time limit as part of the game, but the time limit can be set to adapt to your child’s needs. You may want to start without the time limit at first until your child learns more about the game.

Your young child is constantly learning, developing and trying to figure out the world around him which means he will mimic and copy the behaviors of those around him. Therefore, it is no surprise that your preschool child may lie. What you may not know is that your child may lie for a variety of reasons. These reasons include just copying another’s behavior or they may involve self-gain, avoiding getting in trouble or blaming someone else. In a very young child, lies can also be simple forms of expressions, explorations of creativity or imagination.
Differentiating lies from imaginative play
As we mentioned above, not all lies are told with harmful intent or self-gain in mind, and many lies that your preschool child will tell may be simple ways to express a new idea or concept. A child under five years of age cannot always differentiate lies from truth and sometimes may just be seeking attention or approval. It is not easy to tell the difference, and it takes a parent’s patient understanding to talk with their child to find out what is going on. Creative lies should not be categorized as untruths, but should be recognized for what is underneath.
Take the time in talking with your child to find out the real meaning behind the lie. If it is, in fact, a malicious lie, then you have to explain why these kinds of lies are harmful and how your child can better manage his feelings. If, however, it is simply imaginative play, then realize that this is a natural phase of a child’s life and is important for him to explore his imagination.

Many parents wonder if their children would enjoy going to preschool and how they can encourage their children to attend. Kids 'R' Kids Learning Academy at Hardy Oak Boulevard / Stone Oak Area has a few insights to share that may help.
Prepare your child before starting preschool
Preschool may be the first time that your child is away from you for an extended period of time and he or she may be anxious or afraid. Talk with your child about preschool, what to expect to do there, who he or she will meet, and the fun they will have. Assure your child that they will be safe, and that you will return for them later in the day. You can also simulate or “play” preschool to give your child some further sense of what to expect. Another idea is to take your child to visit the school prior to the start date to see the facilities and meet some of the staff. This tends to put most children more at ease with the upcoming transition.
Help your child anticipate exciting activities
When preparing your child to go to preschool, be sure to pack comforting items and allow your child to choose some of his their things such as a change of clothes and a special blanket for nap time. This will give him or her a sense of control and eager anticipation. Tell your preschooler about the fun activities they will participate in and, perhaps, take them to a playground that has similar equipment where he or she can play with children their own age.
A qualified preschool will have a variety of engaging activities that will keep your child learning while they play. And remember, parents have a huge influence on whether or not their child is able to enjoy preschool. Finding ways to help your child get excited about attending preschool ahead of time will make the transition so much easier.
Kids 'R' Kids Learning Academy at Hardy Oak Boulevard / Stone Oak Area is a specialized child care center that offers an AdvancED Accredited preschool program and exclusive curriculum. Infant sign language increases effective communication between preverbal children and their caregivers. Research has shown that in addition to building communication skills these lessons also boost other areas of the brain, including motor and language skills, resulting in far-reaching developmental advantages.
How is sign language taught?
Infant sign language is a very basic form of signing that is derived from American Sign Language. Because it concentrates on simply naming an object, concept or emotion, it is easy for an infant to communicate using very few gestures. These gestures are taught through repetition, usually with the spoken word. The teacher or parent will point to the teddy bear, say the word “teddy” and make the correct gesture.
When can infant sign language be taught?
Sign language is ideally taught at about seven months of age. At this stage, your child’s motor skills will have developed before his verbal skills, although he will also have picked up some understanding of different words. Your child will learn various signs fairly rapidly at this development stage, as it is characterized by your child’s strong desire to focus on and mimic parents and caregivers.
What signs should I teach my child?
This is entirely up to you, but it is often good to start with ones that will offer your child the biggest rewards. These include signs for “hungry,” “thirsty,” “tired,” and “more.” As your child learns that making these signs means his needs get met faster than crying, he will be more inclined to make the right signs and learn further. Other favorite signs include “toy,” “bath,” “hot,” “cold,” and “play.”
Where can I find a child care facility that offers sign language?
Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of San Antonio offers an innovative early childhood development program for infants that includes sign language. These helpful lessons are included in an advanced daily program that combines story time, exercises and educational toys with a safe, loving environment. Although our homes are safe environments for adults, they can be dangerous to your infant, especially when he or she starts crawling. Here are some tips to ensure that your home is a safe, secure place for your child.
- Start early: Most specialists recommend that you have your home infant proofed well in advance of your child’s arrival. If you wait until after the birth, chances are that you will be so busy that, before you know it, your child is exploring and into everything.
- Get an infant’s point of view: Objects that pose no threat to adults are very different when you are a crawling or walking infant. Take a look at your home from your child’s perspective and you will be able to see exactly what he could bump into, fall over or pull down.
- Electrical outlet covers: Child proof outlet plugs can be removed by small fingers and pose a choking hazard. Rather, choose covers that make outlets more inaccessible. Remember to place them over all outlets, even ones behind furniture.
- Cleaning materials, medicines and poisons: Make sure all of these items are placed high up out of your child’s reach. Infants love to put things in their mouths, and even products that are safe for adult consumption may be poisonous to your child. To make sure they are especially secure, install childproof latches on these cupboards.
- Drawers and cabinets: These can easily hurt an infant, pinching fingers, giving a child access to dangerous items and even falling on a child. Safety latches, especially in the kitchen, will help keep your child safe.
- Stairs: Gates should be installed at the top and bottom of stairs as well as at entrances to off-limit rooms. Make sure that the bars are close enough together so your infant cannot get stuck in the gate.
- Your backyard: Infants love exploring the outdoors, so make sure your pool, water features and ponds are all covered or fenced off. Yard equipment, poisons and fertilizers should be locked away in a secure shed.
If you are looking for a child care facility that offers your infant a safe, secure environment away from home, consider Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of San Antonio. Being pregnant is a time of joy, excitement and work! Here is a checklist of some of some of the most important things you need to do before you welcome your new infant boy or girl:
- Join a prenatal class: These classes are a great way to learn everything you need to know about looking after your infant, from the birthing process and staying healthy to changing a diaper. You will also be able to meet with specialists and chat with other expecting parents.
- Find a child care facility: Spaces in top child care facilities fill up fast, which means it is important to do your research ahead of time in order to reserve your child’s spot. The right child care facility will have a significant impact on your infant’s early development, and knowing that you have your child enrolled will give you some much needed peace of mind.
- Install the car seat: Car seats can be tricky, and it is important that they be installed correctly. Rather than leaving it for the day you arrive home, spend some time getting to know the process before your infant arrives. This way, everything will be in place for a relaxing ride home.
- Stock up: The first month with your infant is a whirlwind as you get used to a completely different lifestyle. Therefore, it is important to make sure that you have everything you need on hand. It is a great idea to have plenty of frozen, home cooked meals and home supplies for the family, as well as bottles, diapers and other infant necessities all on hand before your child’s arrival. This way, you will not have to worry about cooking or grocery shopping, which means you can concentrate on your child.
- Organize friends, family and help: If your friends and family would like to visit or help out, organize this well in advance. Ask one person to help with meals, another to help with feedings and another friend to help with housework. This way, you will receive the support you need without confusion.
- Pack your bag: A few weeks before you are due, pack for your hospital stay. These essential items include: hospital paperwork, a couple of night gowns, a robe, toiletries, a maternity bra, comfortable shoes, a blanket for your newborn, and a change of clothes for you.

The accredited pre-school programs at Kids 'R' Kids Learning Academy of San Antonio focuses on your child’s social skills development in tandem with their cognitive, physical, and language skills development for several important reasons.
The Institute for Early Childhood Education and Research has determined that early development of a child's social skills is linked to:
- Improved academic performance
- Enhanced long-term learning
- Better planning skills
- Increased awareness of their own emotions
- Ability to learn emotional self-control
- Lower risk of anxiety disorders
- Less potential for aggressive disorders
- Increased emotional empathy for others
Our "hug first, then teach" philosophy ensures that social values, nurturing, and love are combined components for an exceptional teaching experience. Our exclusive curriculum offers your child the opportunity to explore, learn, and develop new skills both individually and in combination with their peers.
During these numerous teaching moments, your child will recognize and understand how they feel, what to do, and to develop emotional empathy for others. This can be anything as simple as helping a child express why they are happy or upset, to using storytelling to teach children about emotions, communication, and positive decision-making.
In addition, the use of both child-led playtime and fun teacher directed group activities encourages the development of healthy social awareness. This assists children to bond with one another, beneficially release stress, and relate positively with peers. While enrolled with us, the importance of friendship and harmony with teachers and peers is encouraged, regardless of nationality, religious beliefs, or cultural differences.
Our curriculum offers the perfect combination of individual and group activities to enhance your child’s growth and development within an accredited learning environment. For more information about our pre-school program or to schedule a tour of our Academy, please contact us today.Show Less
Manners are important and easier to instill when children are young and impressionable. Kids 'R' Kids Learning Academy of San Antonio emphasizes the importance of your child's pre-school education and equally essential, positive social development. These social skills which include manners, teamwork, and sharing, are vital in the development of empathy and respect for others and are essential for a successful adulthood.
One of my favorite "quotes from mom" is that Manners matter; they will take you places that Money cannot! Parents can continue the development of these vital social skills at home, with the help of these child care tips for teaching and reinforcing basic manners:
- Remind your child not to interrupt while you are talking either to them or others. Then be sure to give your child your complete attention once you have finished speaking.
- Teach a child how to say "thank you" not only by telling them, but also from your example. You are their strongest role model for these social interactions, and it is impressive how quickly a child will learn and copy your actions.
- Always ask your child to say "please" and "thank you" when interacting with others. Repetition is an essential key to learning at this age. A gentle reminder will reinforce this learning process.
- Stay calm and don’t lose your temper when your child fails to listen. Teaching manners and other social skills play a vital role in helping children develop self- control and appropriate situational responses. Getting angry will only encourage children to express anger themselves.
- Attempt to have a positive attitude rather than negativity toward your child. Instead of telling them what not to do, guide them to do the right thing. You can reinforce this with an enthusiastic hug or a special treat, and the memory will remind your child what to do when a similar situation occurs.
At our Learning Academy, we emphasize a happy and safe environment for your child. The use of physical punishment and harsh language is strictly prohibited. Instead a positive discipline method of "redirection" is used to guide your child toward more appropriate behavior.
At Kids 'R' Kids Learning Academy of San Antonio, our dedicated and extensively trained staff will provide your child with abundant love and the best educational experience possible, while providing you the reassurance of a safe environment. Learning to positively interact with others is an important aspect of pre-school development and impacts a child's future success in life. The social skills that your child acquires at this age develop in stages, all of which are carefully monitored and nurtured at Kids 'R' Kids Learning Academy of San Antonio.
Unlike other pre-schools, we are family-owned and managed and have received the highest rated child developmental designation. Our pre-school program is AdvancED accredited, and our extensively qualified staff will value and nurture your child while encouraging their mental, physical, and emotional growth.
Childhood stages when developing their social skills:
- Developing a sense of self and belonging. We believe it is important that this sense of well-being extends to pre-school, and incorporates our philosophy of "hug first, then teach"" We encourage your child to explore their unique talents and develop a strong, confident, and positive sense of self.
- Learning to trust. A warm, loving environment where promises are kept, whether it be in the home or the classroom, contributes to the development of trust by a child.
- Engaging with other children. As children enter pre-school, they become more independent and interested in interacting with others. This introduces them to the concept that other children think, act, behave and react differently from themselves, which allows for the development of cooperative social skills.
- Sharing. Learning to share and take turns are essential elements of a child's education. Our qualified teachers help facilitate the development of these life skills and assist children to understand the importance of teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving.
- Respect for others and feelings of empathy. These important learning milestones are best developed in strong social settings such as pre-school. Here, children learn to treat other children the way they want to be treated, and have empathy for others. With our guidance, each child learns these essential lessons which will remain useful for the entirety of their lives!
